This checker is a starting point for purchased heat pumps. Without the approved system capacity, it cannot give an exact amount. It also does not test every home-type, account or installation condition.
HRS excludes homes with an existing heat pump used for space heating; replacing that system is not eligible.
What to bring to a contractor
- The fuel that currently provides most space heating.
- Whether you plan to buy or rent the heat pump.
- The quoted indoor and outdoor model numbers.
- Any existing backup heater you want to retain.
For rentals, use the separate rental rate. For income-qualified oil households, contact the official Ontario affordability program before treating a standard HRS cap as the best option.
