Ontario oil heating: check direct-install support first

Ontario is a co-delivery province. NRCan directs Ontario applicants to the IESO Save on Energy route, where eligible oil-heated households can receive a no-cost heat pump installation. The published project value can be up to $25,000; that is not a cheque paid to the homeowner. A separate $250 bonus may apply under the official rules.

Start with the delivery agent

Check income and property requirements with the Energy Affordability Program. Do this before purchasing independently: a direct-install pathway uses its own assessment and delivery process. Do not add a $25,000 project value to an HRS rebate as though both were unrestricted cash.

Why the federal closure message needs context

The national OHPA page reports the federal portal intake closing July 31, 2026, and directs participating-province applicants to their own program for deadlines. Ontario homeowners should use the linked provincial delivery route to check current intake rather than applying through the closed federal portal.
